whittier, AK is an hour's drive or so from anchorage. it's a tiny tourist
trap and cruise/ferry terminal. to get there by car you have to wait in line to
drive through the single-lane railroad tunnel.

the tunnel is 2.5 miles long, which is the second longest highway tunnel in
north america. (boston's central artery tunnel is longer.)
